Corresponds to Perry Lesson VI(§131–137)= SKT บทที่ 6. Low-friction lesson: the "lengthened" roots of the ya-family(śam→śāmyati type)+ neuter u-stem(madhu type: subject case=object case=bare form). The story opens the "honey thread"(madhu→bear→P07 thief); all sandhi follows rules already learned, zero new ⚠.
"Three claims: มธุ (Thai: "honey") ← madhu — มธุรส (Thai: "sweet juice / sweet flavor") = madhu+rasa, the มธุ is right there;
เนตร (Thai: "eye") ← netra —
you decoded it in the L0 Decoder Race; today it enters a sentence;
มุข (Thai: "face, vestibule") ← mukha.
There's one more hiding in an old friend: ศานติ/สันติ (Thai: "peace") has root śam(to calm down)— today it appears as a verb: śāmyati."
(Sentences ๓ and ๔ form a demonstration pair: the comma in ๓ is a deliberate pause — where there is a pause, sandhi does not apply; ๔ has no pause, so madhu+icchati fuses into madhv icchati(u before a different vowel becomes v). Vowel sandhi is covered in the W5 crystallization lesson; for now, just listen, don't write.)
"Two new actions, both ya-family: tuṣyati(he is pleased)→ 'I am pleased'?" (tuṣyāmi)
"śāmyati(he calms down)— listen carefully: the root is śam; when it enters the ya-family, it lengthens: śām-ya-ti.
That long śān- sound in ศานติ (Thai: "peace") and what you hear here are exactly the same thing."
"New word madhu(honey)is neuter: subject case=object case=madhu bare form — same family as vāri, no extra work."
Sentence-building chain: tuṣyati → na tuṣyati → kumāraḥ na tuṣyati → ṛkṣaḥ madhu icchati → kumāro madhu paśyati(sandhi).
Building block(use-first, analyze-later): iti(quotation particle — marks "end of quoted speech," placed after the cited words).
kumāraḥ "madhu icchāmi" iti vadati(The boy says: "I want honey.")
(iti is the very word Thai speakers chant every day in อิติปิโส (Thai: the opening of the Itivuttaka formula, อิติปิ โส ภะคะวา…) — "thus, so." It frames the quoted words and is placed after them. RSS frequency 3.3%. See 積木層研究-高頻即用塊.)
- "ya-roots ending in -am lengthen: śam→śāmyati; roots ending in -d follow the same pattern — mad is a special case of the same type, explicitly marked by Perry(mādyati). Hearing the long vowel is enough; don't memorize the list."
